Biography


Rufina2.jpg (4227 bytes) Rufina James, 1998 Grand Prize winner in the San Francisco Concerto Orchestra International Vocal Competition, has performed leading operatic roles in Europe and the United States. In the Czech Republic, she sang "Amelia" in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera and "Leonora" in Il Trovatore at the Silezian State Opera Theater. She also sang the role of the Countess in Die Fledermaus with several companies, as well as the roles of Carmen, the mother in Hansel and Gretel, the Italian woman in The Consul, and the Countess in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro with such companies as the Golden Gate Opera, Cinnabar Opera Theater, Marin Opera, Marin Civic Light Opera, and The Aspen Music Associates, among others.

In addition to her operatic roles, she performs as soloist in a variety of oratorios, concerts and studio recordings, such as Beethoven's 9th Symphony (with the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra), Handel's Messiah and many others. You may have heard her voice singing Puccini in a popular Pacific Bell commercial.

Ms. Anatolevna-James holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the renown Indiana University School of Music.
